Subject Knowledge Courses (SKEs) allow you to address any gaps that you may have in subject knowledge, to up-skill in an area that you may not have studied and to increase your confidence.

Design and Technology (DT) SKE
8 - 12 weeks
16 - 20 weeks Most Common
24 - 28 weeks
– Food and Nutrition
– Timber and Manufactured Board
– Systems and Control
– New Technologies
You can complete the course in a variety of ways:
– Face to Face
– Online Only
– Blended version of Face to Face & Online
– Full-time (up to 25 hours per week)
– Part-time (up to 12.5 hours per week)
If you complete the course part-time, then you will double the length of weeks that it takes.
Bursary of £200 per week:
Trainees can draw down a bursary of £200 each week that they are on the SKE. This allows trainees to remain flexible in their approach. Should you want to reduce your working hours and work during the day, utilise your evenings and weeks or work in holidays, the funding allows you the flexibility to do so.
All funding is subject to eligibility criteria.
→ Your degree wasn’t in your chosen subject but is related
→ You studied the subject to A Level, but not degree level
→ You have an unrelated degree, but relevant professional experience
→ It’s been some time since you used studied your subject
→ You have gaps in your subject knowledge that need addressing for you to able to complete teacher training
In addition to these there are individual eligibility criteria that will be assessed on a case by case basis.
